Lake Mburo national park is Uganda’s smallest savannah park situated in western Uganda about 150 miles from Kampala city. Gazetted in 1933 as a controlled hunting ground but later turned to game reserve after Uganda’s independence in 1963 and then later to a national park in 1983, It is home to up 68 mammal species and over 300 bird species.
Wildlife – Lake Mburo has variety of species that include the Bushels zebra that can only be found in Kidepo and Mburo, impala, hippos, elands, Buffalo, jackals, leopards, reedbuck, spotted hyenas, warthogs, waterbucks to mention but a few
Activities – Game drives, boat rides and bird watching are the three most popular activities carried out in the park but it also offer unique activities like horseback riding trips, sport fishing and the recently introduced air balloon tours. Other activities include nature walks and hiking.
Getting there – A road trip from Kampala to Lake Mburo park will take about 4 to 5 hours while if you start from Mbarara, it’s just 1 and half hours’ drive to Lake Mburo park.
